Quilt meeting for September 2012

Julie started us off this month with a red/black quilt made of simple squares set on point.

Julie also brought a simple mini quilt with hand embroidered flowers in the border. This little quilt won Julie a Best of Show ribbon at the fair!

Rose's blue and yellow quilt shows some different blocks using the fun exploding rail fence technique.

It was a good year for our quilters at the fair since this fun quilt won a red ribbon for Rose. She created a bright border around a panel of Pickles cartoons that feature a little quilt humor -- of course!!

This gorgeous quilt is from Barbara and features scrappy stars and a string block border.

Elaine made this quilt at a retreat recently in Cedar City. She said the pattern is called sparrow's star.

There were lots of oohs and aahs when Darlene showed this bargello quilt with country colors!

Darlene also brought this smaller quilt in blue and white. The yellow stars are appliqued by machine.

Stephanie chose a different layout pattern for the blocks our group did for a mystery-quilt-along earlier this year. She said she chose this layout just because no one else in our group had done it this way.

A few teal and black fabrics make a bright baby quilt from Jonnel. A simple layout lets the colors and fabric patterns stand out.

Vicky said she wants to be a cowgirl and used the Urban Cowgirl fabric line to make herself a birthday present. She used a pattern called "Turning 20" for this quilt.

Vicky also entered her bargello quilt in the fair. She received a blue ribbon and also Best of Show for this amazing quilt!

August 2012 quilts

Carolene shared a quilt she made for a grandson's wedding. There are three of each block in different sizes in this quilt. She used scraps for the blocks and she hand quilted this herself.

Linda said this Irish Cross pattern quilt took her a year to make. Linda also quilted this herself by machine.

Julie brought a woven shirt she made and embroidered herself. She said she did the hand embroidery 20 years ago. She also said she entered this shirt in the fair at one time and it won a blue ribbon.

Julie also finished a quilt using the exploding rail fence technique. Part of the inside border is made with half-square triangles matched so the strips run in the same direction.

Just for fun, Tiffany sewed this cute owl rice bag to show us.

Tiffany also showed her quilt top made from a Moda jellyroll. She said she used a glue stick to hold the applique pieces in place and she sewed the edges when the glue dried.

Rose used leftover fabrics from other projects to create a scrappy disappearing nine-patch blanket for a baby boy.

Rose also made this bright, scrappy spiderweb quilt for her grandchildren to play on.

Nine-patch exchange instruction

Here you are --- the instructions for the disappearing 9-patch exchange. The dimensions for cutting and sewing are correct here but the colors need changed:
pink in the directions = black

REMINDER for Jan. meeting

Please everyone remember that we are having our Chinese Auction at the January meeting!
The organizing bug seems to hit most of us as we start the new year and this is a great month to go through your fabric stash and quilting supplies to evaluate what you need and don't need.
Then bring your duplicate or no-longer-loved sewing and quilting items to the January meeting to donate to our fun raffle activity.

Also - remember the quilt show coming up Jan. 29-30 at the library.
Details are available here
